Dieter Sauter, after getting his degree from the University of Tübingen, Sauter started working as a reporter for Bavarian Television (BFS) in Germany, Munich, in 1981.

In 1991 he reported as the ARD correspondent during the Gulf War from Turkey, Jordan and Baghdad (Iraq), later from the wars in Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia.
